The Governor's Office

The Governor's Office

Governor Jan Brewer named education as one of her "four cornerstones of reform" in her Policy Agenda: Building a More Prosperous Arizona which was released on January 18, 2011. The Governor’s Office and the P-20 Coordinating Council have placed a premium on early benchmarks which will lead to achieving specific goals by 2020 including:

  • improving our high school graduation rate to 93%, from a starting point of 75%;
  • enabling at least 94% of third graders to meet State reading standards, in contrast to our baseline of just 69%; and
  • doubling the number of college students who complete their studies and receive a four-year degree

Debra Raeder-Gay, Executive Director of the Governor’s P-20 Coordinating Council, serves as the administrator of both Arizona’s College Access Challenge Grant and the NCAN/Kresge grant for the development of a statewide college access network.
